I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a good fried chicken sandwich, and lucky for me, the DMV area has tons of them. Fried chicken sandwiches are rising up to the top of favorite American food in not just the DMV area, but the country. Variants of toppings include coleslaw, pimento cheese, LTO (lettuce, tomato, onion), pickles, and house sauce, the list could go on and on. These are just a few of my recommendations for fried chicken sandwiches in the DMV area:
1. BRD- Baltimore, MD
Had to start this post off strong with the classic chicken sandwich from BRD in Baltimore, MD. There are two locations, but both of them are in Baltimore. They offer different chicken sandwiches like Buffalo, Jamaican Jerk, and Hanoi Hen (with carrot slaw, cucumbers, cilantro, and sweet chili mayo), but in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with the Bmore BRD sando, which is their classic sandwich that comes with antibiotic-free chicken, dill pickles, old bay seasoning, and BRD sauce.
2. Lucky Buns- Washington D.C
Lucky Buns is more commonly known for their yummy burgers, but their chicken sandwich is just as good. They have a great variety of chicken sandwiches as well, featuring toppings like Thai chili mumbo sauce, buttermilk ranch mayo, karashi slaw, and onions (not all on the same sandwich though, lol).
3. Hot Lola’s- Arlington, VA
If a spicy chicken sandwich is more up your alley, then Hot Lola’s is the spot for you! Their basic Hot Lola’s sandwich comes with chicken, slaw, pickles, and comeback sauce. You can also choose your spice level, it ranges from not hot (no heat added, just seasoning) to flippin hot, which they only describe with emojis lol.
4. Fedwich- Washington D.C
Fedwich is a sandwich pop-up collaboration in D.C. Their fried chicken sandwich options include their classic KBC sandwich (with fried chicken, pickles, and a red pepper aioli), the Club Fed sandwich (with fried chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and the red pepper aioli), and the Jim Kelly (with fried chicken, buffalo sauce, blue cheese, shaved celery, and lettuce).
5. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken- Washington D.C
For the longest, I’ve been going here for just some doughnuts and chicken, I can’t believe I’ve missed out on their chicken sandwich for so long. They have different kinds like the BLT version, a classic South version (with honey butter and hot sauce), and an Old Bay sandwich. Oh! and you can also choose to have this on a savory doughnut instead of a regular bread bun.
6. Ekiben- Baltimore, MD
Other than BRD, Ekiben is the other popular chicken sandwich spot in Baltimore. They do their chicken sandwiches a little differently, their classic Taiwanese curry fried chicken is topped with pickles, spicy sambal mayo, and fresh herbs, all served on a delicious steamed bun. I have yet to hear a bad review about this place lol.
7. Roaming Rooster- Washington D.C
My go to sandwich here at Roaming Rooster is the Honey Butter fried chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese. But my other favorites here include their club sandwich (with fried chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and ranch), and their Nashville hot chicken sandwich (with house made slaw and pickles).
8. Your Only Friend- Washington D.C
Unfortunately, this place is temporarily closed until they find a permanent spot, they were a pop up shop like Fedwich. I’ll be patiently awaiting their return. My favorite sandwich here was the Return of the Mack, which has a fast food style chicken nugget, american cheese, lettuce, pickles, chopped onions, mayo, and crystal special sauce.
9. Fuku- Baltimore and Washington D.C
Fuku has a lot of locations, including New York, Atlanta, and Houston. They have 5 different kinds of fried chicken sandwiches, and they also serve sweet jalepeno waffle fries.
10. Bun Papa- Alexandria, VA
I just recently found out about Bun Papa, and I’m so glad I did. This is another pop up shop located in Bread & Water’s location in Alexandria. They offer regular fried chicken sandwiches, but this chicken cordon bleu sandwich has my heart, lol.
If you think I missed a place, feel free to let me know in the comments! I love a good fried chicken sandwich, it’s something I don’t think I could ever get tired of, lol.
I love this style of post! Very unqiue. I wish I could eat them all.
